History of DTx Flower

Since 1991, DTx has enabled medical device manufacturers to produce the highest quality embedded computing solutions. DTx specializes in serving the unique needs of medical manufacturers resistant to changes in technology due to strict regulatory demands.

The DTx story begins in 1991 when DTx President, Art Schmitt and Vice President of Business Development, Gene Garofalo founded DTx in Melbourne, Florida. DTx, formerly an acronym for Digital Technology Exchange, functioned as an obsolete computer parts broker serving a wide range of Original Equipment Manufacturers. Within 6 months, Schmitt and Garofalo recognized a common and overwhelming need among their customers and identified a solution:

OEMs were being forced to shut down production lines and re-certify products due to parts obsolescence in the rapidly changing computer technology industry.

At a request of DTx’s first and longest standing customer, DTx developed a comprehensive program for the design, production and management of a stable computing solution which resisted the constant changes in the commercial market.DTx’s knowledge of computer technology, experience with parts obsolescence and strategic partnerships with suppliers allowed customers to focus on their core competencies without jeopardizing costly regulatory certifications. Soon, DTx began producing and managing the embedded computing platforms of almost all its customers. The new business model focused on providing engineering and production services to manufacturers resistant to changes in technology due to regulatory restrictions.

1996: DTx was acquired by a large systems integrator. DTx functioned as an independent subsidiary of its parent company, and maintained its company name and current staff. During this time, DTx provided a broader range of systems integration and network implementation services to both commercial and government entities.

2002: DTx management was eager to return to its former business model, believing the company was underutilizing the specialized skills of its staff. President Art Schmitt played a pivotal role in organizing and executing DTx’s successful management buy out from its former parent company. DTx management, participating employees and capital investors finalized the buyback from its former parent company. All jobs were preserved post-sale. DTx returned to its former business model, and began designing and manufacturing managed computing solutions for medical manufacturers and other OEMs in need of comprehensive technology management. DTx also began producing a display products line to provide its customers with a more complete computing solution.

2004 (December): DTx announced the formation of two new groups within the company - DTx Advanced Display Solutions™ and DTx Medical Computing Solutions™. The groups were created to provide an internal structure which further distinguished DTx’s unique skills in the medical computing marketplace and LCD display industry.

2006: EN ISO13485:2003 was acknowledged as the next vital step towards DTx's goal of quality. The DTx team spent 2006 perfecting operating and quality processes and procedures in preparation for adding the EN ISO 13485:2003 certification to accompany our ISO 90001:2000 Registration.

Today, DTx is the preeminent provider of long-life embedded computing solutions, serving many of the world’s largest medical manufacturers. Having established a regional presence throughout the U.S., DTx plans to open service and logistical support centers in Europe this year.
